Autumn Glow was bred at Newhaven Park from Via Africa, whose South African sprinting career brought three Grade 1 victories and a champion sprinter title. Before Autumn Glow reached the racecourse, her dam had already produced Golden Rose winner In The Congo, giving the family an established Australian connection.
The mating with The Autumn Sun brought together Via Africa’s speed and a stallion who had excelled over a mile and beyond. Autumn Glow and In The Congo are three-quarter siblings: their sires, The Autumn Sun and Snitzel, are both sons of Redoute’s Choice. Her eventual owners, Arrowfield and Hermitage Thoroughbreds, had also raced The Autumn Sun together.
Autumn Glow first changed hands as Lot 107 at the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast National Weanling Sale. Silverdale Farm and Shrone Bloodstock paid A$600,000 for her from Newhaven Park’s draft, buying her to develop and resell as a yearling.
Presented by Silverdale Farm as Lot 440 at the 2023 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, she topped the auction at A$1.8 million, selling to Arrowfield and Hermitage Thoroughbreds. Silverdale’s Steve Grant later recalled how naturally she handled her preparation, particularly the daily work teaching her to remain calm, a quality that became familiar on the racecourse.
Unraced at two, Autumn Glow debuted in a 1300-metre benchmark race at Rosehill in August 2024, beating Dawn Service by two and a half lengths. Two weeks later, she defeated Wanaruah in the Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes, becoming the first filly to win the race. Victory over Snow In May in the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes then made her a leading prospect for the Flight Stakes.
Her first Group 1 opportunity disappeared on the eve of that race when lameness led to the discovery of a bone chip in her right knee. Surgery ended her spring campaign. She returned in March 2025 to win the Listed Darby Munro Stakes over Enriched, but a subsequent virus restricted her autumn to that single appearance.
This part of the story is waiting to be written.
